GAF, IKO and Certainteed have new designer shingles for 2011. For a little more money you can upgrade to any of these designer shingles and have a top notch looking roof. These shingles have the look and color variation of thick, heavy traditional designer shingles but at a much lower price. A new designer shingle should be a consideration when selecting a shingle. Here are a few reasons you should pick one of these designer shingles:
Why choose a new designer shingle?
Easier install
Because these shingles have less asphalt and are not laminated they are easier to install and flash. Without the normal raised areas of a laminate shingle it is much easier to install step flashing so your shingles won’t leak. A lighter weight also makes them easier to carry up the roof.
Great look for smaller price
When you pick one of these designer shingles you can have an extremely expensive upgrade shingle look, but for a lot less money. Click on a shingle above to see the colors available in each line.
Less asphalt means they use less oil
Larger size = faster installation
A few of the new designer shingles have a larger exposure and shingle size which means you can install the shingle faster. With a larger shingle size you’ll use fewer nails which will speed up the installation process. Certainteed Highland Slate, GAF GrandSlate II and GAF Country Mansion II have a larger size and exposure than traditional laminate shingles. Certainteed Highland Slate have 50 shingles/square and GAF Grandslate II and Country Mansion II have 48 shingles/square. For a complete list of specs, click one of the shingle names above.
